The 5th Day Experience

Frequently Asked Questions

The Fifth Day Experience is an opportunity to transform our students’ learning experiences by restructuring the traditional school calendar to include 13 Fridays between Friday, February 5th , 2021 – May 14th , 2021 (except, 2/5 & 4/2). The Fifth Day Experience applies to high school students who attend Butler Tech’s high school campuses (Fairfield Township, Monroe, West Chester). The overall goal of the Fifth Day Experience is to enhance students’ education and growth through freedom and flexibility based on their interests, needs, and ambitions, ultimately creating highly competitive graduates.

These Fridays are school days! This is a change from last year. The difference on Fridays from 1st semester to the Fifth Day Experience is that students will have additional opportunities to choose from each Friday. They can work with their current teachers and schedule a Fifth Day Experience, OR, complete schoolwork and some Fifth Day Experiences Virtually. Students can personalize their learning opportunities for Fifth Day Experience!

Yes. They can either be on campus, working virtually (school work or online FDE opportunities), or completing work-based learning assignments (co-ops, internships, etc.).

Students will have the opportunity to participate in intervention with current teachers, as well

Internal Fifth Day Experiences:

Internal options arranged by Butler Tech will occur during regular school hours each campus’ schedule is the same as this is a school day.

Normal bus transportation will be provided to and from Butler Tech for bus riders.

Student drivers may drive themselves to the Butler Tech campus.

If the students’ internal option is not a full-day experience:

  • Bus riders must be working with a teacher or registered for both a morning and afternoon
sessions. Otherwise, the student must have the required parent permission to leave.
  • Student drivers may arrive at the time of their scheduled on-campus experience and leave once their Internal Fifth Day Experience is complete.

Yes. Attendance will be taken and parents/guardians will be contacted if a student is absent from the Internal Fifth Day Experience they registered to attend.

Students will register for their Fifth Day Experience through the Fifth Day Experience website at http://fifthdayexperience.kinsta.cloud. All students will register their intent for Fifth Day Experience including Internal Work-based learning options. As is the case during first-semester of this year, teachers can also request students attend school on Fridays for extra help or enrichment activities.
This is a school day, breakfast and lunch will be available on campus for all students who have registered for an Internal Fifth Day Experience or are being brought in by a teacher for extra help with class work. Normal prices will apply including free/reduced status.
Students will log their Fifth Day Experience from the previous Friday through their online Schoology account. This gives the student a record of acquired experiences, credits, certifications, etc. This record of experiences can be used on their resume, scholarship applications, etc. Otherwise, because Friday’s are not mandatory school days, the data collected will be used to drive future programming and overall Fifth Day Experience research and reporting.
